S130 Course Objectives • Construct fireline to required standards using various methods for construction • Strengthen, reinforce, and use holding actions on a fireline • Extinguish the fire with or without the use of water • Locate self and fire on a map • Assess and report fire situation data (written or oral) by radio and or messenger

  6. S130 Course Objectives (continued) • Complete assigned tasks in a safe and efficient manner • Given an assignment in a wildfire environment, describe factors in that environment which could impact safety

  7. Evaluation • We will have several evaluations for you to complete throughout the course; • 2 written tests • 25 second fire shelter drill • FFT2 task book • For all written tests you must have 80% to pass • THIS COURSE DOES NOT INCLUDE A PACK TEST!

  8. Excuse Joe’s Artwork • Many of the slides in this course have “paint” program drawings for graphics • Used for tasks and occurrences that are not always easily photographed

  9. Field Work • We will try to perform as many practical outdoor exercises as possible • Wear clothes you don’t mind getting dirty in, we will be doing handlines, hoselays, etc.

  10. Squads & Bosses • The class will be split up into squads of 4 to 5 students each • Squad Bosses will be rotated from squad to squad throughout the course to even out the styles of instruction
