  5. State of being Verbs • There are EIGHT • am, is, are, was, were, be, being, been • Annie is a wild, wonderful, bouncing baby bear.

  6. Helping Verbs • Used with another verb to help (duh!) • If you see an “ing” ending, it may have a helping verb. • I am running.

  7. Helping Verbs • Sometimes “not” separates the helping verb from the main verb. • Sue is not eating.

  8. Helping Verbs • There can be as many as three helping verbs in addition to the main verb. • The child must have been looking for his coat.

  9. How can you tell a helping verb from a state-of being verb?
