  2. Today we are learning • What a foreign policy is. • Details of Hitler’s foreign policy.

What is a Foreign Policy? • A countries foreign policy dictates how it will interact with other nations in the world. • Most modern countries have a foreign policy which entails international cooperation, aid to countries in need and the promotion of the nation’s interests abroad. • It can also be called an ‘international relations policy’.

  4. Hitler’s Foreign Policy • Hitler’s foreign policy can be described as Aggressive, Expansionist AND Racist. . He wants Germany to get bigger He is prepared to use force This will be at the expense of other ‘inferior’ nations

Points to note… • Lebensraum – the acquisition of more land for Germany’s surplus population. “Land and soil is the goal of our foreign policy. • Gross Deutschland – all German speakers to be returned to the Reich. This will challenge the Treaty of Versailles. • Some FP aims are linked. For example lebensraum and ‘master race’. • Hitler rearmed Germany considerable from when he came to power. A strong military was essential for achieving his foreign policy aims.

  6. Task! Imagine you are Adolf Hitler. Write a 30 second speech to the German people explaining what your Foreign Policy aims are and why they will result in Germany becoming powerful and respected. Your speech must contain the following words: Lebensraum, Gross Deutschland, Rearm, Master race, Anschluss and Treaty of Versailles. Start your speech – My fellow Germans, I am going to outline my plans for manking Germany and great and powerful nation once more…
