  1. Learning Epinfo with stream files The Brazilian group www.epiinfo.com.brthat translated Epi Info to Portuguese, created a collection of slides in stream mode for teaching this software. The Epi Info Community Health Assessment Tutorial (EIHAT) http://www.cdc.gov/epiinfo/communityhealth.htmwas the basic stone for this work. Epi Info has five core modules: Make View, Enter Data, Analysis, Epi Map, and Epi Report. At now, training is avalaible in eight lessons (four modules). Soon will be two more modules. Additionally there is a stream about Epi Info’s main page, including the Epi Info’s utilities

About the EIHAT The Epi Info™ Community Health Assessment Tutorial was produced by the collaborative efforts of the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the Assessment Initiative (AI), and the New York State Department of Health (NYSDOH). New York State’s AI has been awarded a new five-year cooperative agreement by the CDC to strengthen assessment capacity and practice. This is the third round of AI funding offered through the CDC, and it is the second time that the NYSDOH has been successful in getting the award. This tutorial for using the Epi Info software program has been created by the CDC Epi Info™ development team at the request of the NYSDOH Assessment Initiative, and has been designed using asthma data provided to the CDC by the NYSDOH. This tutorial will introduce you to the basic concepts of Epi Info™. Each lesson builds upon knowledge gained from the previous lesson. It is recommended that you follow the lessons in the order presented.

  3. The Scenario of EIHAT The tutorial includes a survey adapted from one used in New York State. However, the survey data used for the analysis were created for the tutorial. Anonymous data relating to New York State were taken from different datasets referenced in Appendix I: Data Sources. To support the scenario, data has been collected from a variety of current sources. Provided datasets include aggregate data, map, shape, census, and primary data. In this scenario example, you will be using a primary data source (paper survey) to collect information for the sample population of students from County X. You will use Make View to create the electronic survey, Enter to add records to your survey, Analysis to import and analyze results, Epi Map to plot the results, and Epi Report to present your findings.

  4. File Setup You will receive: Epi Info version 3.5.1 (August 13, 2008) (check the Epi Info™ website for updates www.cdc.gov/epiinfo ) EIHAT file (zipped). Once installed, Epi Info™ creates a folder on the C: drive called EpiInfo. The EIHAT files need to be installed inside this folder. From the desktop, open My Computer. Open your Local Disk drive, usually named C. Unzip the EIHAT.zip file inside the EpiInfo folder on your C: drive. Check if there is a new folder named: “EIHA Tutorial folder”. We included the file EIHAT2.0.doc in this folder. On page 3 of this file there is a list of the files that should be in the EIHA Tutorial folder. Files that are on the folder but are not on the list are not EIHAT files, they are designed to meet the functionality of the stream files.
