  1. Short Story Analysis Project

  2. Select one story from the following choices and complete the short story analysis project.

  3. “Everyday Use”by Alice Walker [TB 102] • The story humorously illustrates the differences between Mrs. Johnson and her shy younger daughter Maggie, who still live traditionally in the rural South, and her educated, successful daughter Dee,or "Wangero" as she prefers to be called, who scorns her immediate roots in favor of a pretentious "native African" identity.

  4. “The Possibility of Evil”by Shirley Jackson [TB364] • The house Mrs. Strangeworth lives in has been in the family for three generation as have her prized possessions the rose gardens that most everyone in the town envies. In this tight-knit community it seems as though everyone has been a bit sad for a week or so. Perhaps it’s because of the anonymous letters which have been delivered all over town.

  5. “And From Clay We are Created” byIsabel Allendre [TB304] • Based on a true story, a reporter becomes involved in the rescue efforts after a volcano erupts in South America in 1985.

  6. “Beware of the Dog”by Roald Dahl [online] • A fighter pilot, after being wounded and shot down during a mission during World War II, wakes up in a hospital.

  7. “Two Friends” by Guy de Maupassant • The story takes place in January, 1871, as the German occupation of France is nearly complete. Two friends, Morissot and Sauvage, live in Paris during the occupation.
