  3. Use the Web Well • In the Right Place: • Google insufficient? Try library websites / Database • Doubt and Details • Question the authority of all these Web sources • Look for correct spelling/grammar/citation

  4. Web Page vs. Page on the Web • Any search result on google • A specialized site like google scholar • Source: • Academic credentials, professional training, or experience • Truncating: Cut http://www.ithacalibrary.com/sp/subjects/guide.php?, down to http://www.ithacalibrary.com/

  5. Search Methods • Phrase: • use quotations to find whole phrases • Search Engine Math • (+) for words that must display • (-) for words not wanted

  6. Wildcard: • use (*) for unknown words • Example: Unknown name “G* Kildall” • Boolean Searching: • AND, NOT, OR • Makes search results more specific
