  4. HISTORY • THE POND IS OVER 150 YEARS OLD • IT WAS PART OF THE OLD ELMHURST ESTATE • ONCE USED BY SCHOOL CHILDREN FOR NATURE STUDIES • OWNED BY ALDWYCK HOUSING

WHAT NEEDS TO BE DONE • Transfer ownership or enter into long term lease • Remove 24 inches of silt to pond surround. • Re-instate Duck Island • Lower overflow by 6 inches • Redefine path surrounding pond • Remove “White berry” plants. • Remove Ivy from existing trees • Fell some of the smaller saplings • Make safe, where needed • Encourage local people to maintain the pond • Install Signage RED HAS A COST - TOTAL APPROX £1500

  6. WHAT IS THE PLAN • USE CURRENT DISABLED GROUPS TO CLEAN AND MAINTAIN POND SURROUND • REQUEST FUNDING TO HIRE DIGGER FOR ONE WEEK • USE DIGGER TO REINSTATE DUCK ISLAND & CLEAR SILT • TAKE NOTHING FROM SITE EXCEPT RUBBISH

  7. HOW CAN WE ACHIEVE THIS • REQUEST CEO TO SET UP DIALOGUE WITH ALDWYCK HOUSING AND COUNTY COUNCIL, WITH A VIEW TO BISHOP’S STORTFORD TOWN COUNCIL TAKING OWNERSHIP OF THE POND. • SOURCE COSTINGS AND QUOTES FOR WORKS NEEDED.
