Être en train de… • Means: “in the process of…” • Used to emphasize that someone is doing something at a particular moment. • Followed with an infinitive • Ex: Il est en train de faire ses devoirs. He is in the process of doing his homework. • When using this expression in the past, use the imparfait form of être • Ex: J’étais en train de me coiffer les cheveuxquandmon frère estentrédans la salle de bain. I was in the process of doing my hair when my brother entered the bathroom.

Révisons… • Traduisez les phrases suivantes en français: • I went out with friends. • Je suissorti(e) avec mesamis. • He climbed (monter) in the car. • Il estmontédans la voiture. • We came down(descendre) from the attic. • Nous sommesdescendus du grenier. • You passed by (passer à)the library. • Tues passé à la bibliothèque. à

  4. Sortir, Monter, Descendre, Passer • These four verbs traditionally take être in the passé composé, however when they have a direct object, they take avoir. • Elle est sortie de la maison. She went out of the house. • Elle a sorti la lanterne. She took out the lantern. • When the direct object comes before the verb, there ISagreement. • Elle a sorti la lanterne.  Elle l’a sortie.

Le Futur! • Used to talk about what will happen • Formation: • Use infinitive of verb as the stem, and add future endings: Je -ai Nous -ons Tu-as Vous-ez Il/Elle -aIls/Elles-ont • NOTE: For –re verbs, drop the “e” on the end of the verb, then add endings! • Example: • Parler Je parleraiNous parlerons TuparlerasVousparlerez Il/Elle parleraIls/Ellesparleront

Les Irréguliers du Futur • Some verbs have irregular stems in the future: • Aller ir- Avoir  aur- Devoir  devr- • Etre  ser- Faire  fer-Pouvoir  pourr- • Venir  viendr- Voir  verr- Vouloir  voudr- • Use the irregular stem and add the endings to form the future. • Ex: Etre Je seraiNous serons TuserasVousserez Il/Elle sera Ils/Ellesseront • NOTE: Verbs with spelling changes, like acheter or appeler, will also have spelling changes in the future. • Ex: Nous appellerons, J’achèterai

  7. Courir- To run • Courir is an irregular verb: • Present tense Courir Je cours Nous courons TucoursVouscourez Il/Elle courtIls/Ellescourent • Past Participle: couru • Future Stem: courr-
