  1. Exploiting Innovation Methods in Manufacturing: A Furniture Manufacturer's experience Speaker: Mr. Joe Borg Ing. Ryan Xuereb

  2. Project Scope & Outline • Crossing of information between Academia and Industry • Academia at the forefront of Technology • Able to develop tools to Manufacturing Industry Requirements • Academia gaining access to Manufacturing Industry • Factory layout design • Design for Process Timing Efficiency (Lean Principles) • Design for Process Flexibility • Design for Energy Efficiency • Design for Low Environmental Impact • Augmented Reality tool for Design • Visualisation tool to aid communication between Design & Manufacturing

  3. Conclusions • What was achieved • Academia understood exactly what was needed and developed a tool which is both easy to use and flexible to be used on any process and product line. • Tool already put to practice in FXB new Spraying and Finishing department • Tool exposed shortcomings in initial layout and enabled to make improvements which will process flow and material wastage • Tool is used to calculate CO2 and environmental impact. • Academia gaining access to different manufacturing practices which can be fed back to future engineers.
