INFINITIVE CLAUSES • Infinitive clause is TO(untuk) that is put before original verb, if the words are preceded by: • The other verbs • To be • Examples: • Saya datang untuk menemuinyauntuk memberikan hadiah •  I came to meet her to give a gift • Ambisi saya dahulu adalah untuk menjadi seorang pilot •  My ambition was to become a pilot

If the verb is verb of the five senses and verb of perception, so it may not be given “TO” in front of it, such as: see - melihat feel - merasa hear - mendengar know - mengetahui smell - mencium (bau) help - menolong make - membuat notice - memperhatikan watch - mengawasi, let - membiarkan menonton please - mempersilahkan Examples: - Saya membantu ibu saya untuk membuat kue I help my mother make a cake - Kemarin dia pergi ke Jakarta untuk menonton Westlife She went to Jakarta yesterday watch Westlife

  4. Phrases of Purpose Phrases of Purpose answer the question WHY (what was the reason for doing this?). It usually occupies at the beginning of clause or in the end of clause. ex.: I went to the store yesterday, to buy a coat To reach the airport on time, we had to complete the trip in two hours. Some phrases used in clause, they are: 1. To - untuk 2. In order to 3. So as to 4. So that 5. In order that 6. In order for - agar 7. So - jadi 8. Because - karena Examples: - She took a computer course. She could get a better job She took a computer course so that she could get a better job. - A patient stays in hospital. He wants to get medical care. A patient stays in hospital in order to get medical care. - She stood. She wishes her husband can see her. She stood in order for her husband can see her. - supaya - sehingga
