  2. Abstract This document describes a technical proposal for TGai. In this proposal, a method of broadcasting the probe response frame is provided to share BSS information between STAs for FILS stage. Huawei Technologies Co. Ltd

  4. State of the Art Active Scanning • Scan through all available channels. • STA  “shall transmit Probe request frames containing the desired SSID or one or more SSID List elements. ” [11REVmb-D11, Cls 10.1.4.1] • AP  “ Probe Response frames shall be sent as directed frames to the address of the STA that generated the probe request. ” [11REVmb-D11, Cls 10.1.4.3.2] • STA  “process all received probe responses.” [11REVmb-D11, Cls 10.1.4.3.3] Huawei Technologies Co. Ltd

  5. State of the Art Passive Scanning • Scan through all available channels • STA “shall scan for Beacon frames containing that ESS’s SSID, returning all Beacon frames matching the desired SSID in the BSSDescriptionSet parameter of the corresponding MLME-SCAN.confirm primitive with the appropriate bits in the Capabilities Information field indicating whether the Beacon frame came from an infrastructure BSS or IBSS.”[11REVmb-D11, Cls 10.1.4.1] Huawei Technologies Co. Ltd

  6. Beacon vs Probe response frame • Same and difference: • — STA can detect the AP through beacon frame and probe response frame. • — There are 53 info element common to both in frame types; only 3 info elements different; total of info element is 56. [11REVmb-D11] Huawei Technologies Co. Ltd

  7. Share the Probe response frame  non-AP STA indicates in the probe request to the AP to broadcast the probe response. For STA in active mode, use the probe request to indicate to the AP to broadcast the probe response frame. This way, other STAs can also obtain the broadcasted probe response frame, thus potentially avoiding duplicate probe events from other STAs; potentially shortening AP discovery. For STA in passive mode, scan for both the set of broadcasted probe response and the beacon frame; similar benefit as above for STA in active mode. 9. And also … • Part of probe requests could be saved and collision could be reduced. • STA can find more APs in a shorter time. • STA need not transmit the ACK frame to confirm successful receipt of the probe response frame because of broadcast. So occupied air time could be reduced. Huawei Technologies Co. Ltd
