Actions taken to improve management of expenditure • Functioning of Procurement committees (BEC and BAC) improved; • Regular management meetings to review actual expenditure against allocated budget and performance plans; • Regular inter-departmental meetings to resolve disputes and outstanding matters; • Oversight visits to NGO’s receiving transfers. • Reprioritize department’s budget based on key priority areas • Active Ageing • Youth mobilization • Gender-based violence • Extending the Social Development Footprint (Mikondzo) • Social Development/October month activities

Challenges • Continued budget pressures: • Insufficient budget allocation versus wide scope of responsibilities • Increasing demand for services versus declining resources; • Shortage of Social Workers results in inability to provide statutory services as required by specific legislation eg. Children’s Act, Older Persons Act, etc.
