WP 5: Capacity Building • Adequate technical level of African stakeholders assured • Capacity building is an essential component in ensuring sustainability of the MESA SADC THEMA. • To ensure availability of a skilled work-force in Africa in the long term • To support the use and uptake of the MESA services • To integrate the use of EUMETcast data in the regular curriculum of African universities. 14-18 March 2016,Windhoek

WP5.1: Training Package preparation and update • AMESD created some training material for the 3 legacy services • MESA to consolidate on this training by update and improvements as desired. • Agriculture Service-BCA • Drought Service- UZ • Wildfire Service- PoN • Flood Service- UZ • Material have been updated and delivered • Envisaged translation of material to French & Portuguese. 14-18 March 2016,Windhoek

WP5.2: SADC THEMA Regional Training • To ensure CB by having an intensive contact teaching & learning for at least 1 person per service per country • Expectation of technical and operational efficiency • Tests the material and enables participants to become ToT’s/ • ToT’s will then train their peers in their countries 14-18 March 2016,Windhoek

WP5.3: National Trainings • Recognises the limited reach of RTW’s. • The trained ToT’s (NFP’s) to arrange and conduct a training session in their own country for their peers. • Undertaken by the potential champions in association with the Capacity Building Partners • Also used to create visibility & awareness • Policy Day 14-18 March 2016,Windhoek

WP5.4: Distance education • Recognises the limited reach of RTW’s and NTW’s • Attempts to reach many and enable the production of critical mass. • Based on open learning platform; Moodle. • Reduces overhead costs for participants and institutions • Develops & consolidates the capacity of the participating institutions to offer online education and develop area competency. • Will be available on www.mesasadc.org 14-18 March 2016,Windhoek

WP5.5: On Job Training • Two types of on the job training • Internal staff • Adhoc trainings • Recognises different skill sets and backgrounds • Emphasises productive operational applications. • Operational Support for NFP’s by CB partners. • Standalone material usage- developed based on experiences of other sessions. 14-18 March 2016,Windhoek

  9. WP5.6: Curriculum Development • Recognises that MESA is a short term program • Leverages on the university’s data hunger and mandate. • Envisages development and uptake of EO programs in regional universities. • Ensures critical mass and sustainability. 14-18 March 2016,Windhoek
