  1. Going Green By: Kara Hopkins

  2. Task • In groups of 3 or 4 you will be researching the effects of climate change and how to go green.

  3. Step #1 • Using the websites at the bottom of the slide answering the following questions: 1) What is Global Warming? 2) What does “Going Green” Mean? XXXXX XXXXX

  4. Step #2 • As a group visit XXXXXX and have each member take the carbon dioxide test. • Find the average of your group and we will share the information later with the class. • Set a goal of what number you would like to be able to lower your personal or group number to.

  5. Step #3 • Using the websites on the next slide research ways to “go green” and choose a topic that interests the group. (get the topic approved by the teacher ) • Examples: - Food - Heating/Cooling - Electricity - Alternative Energy Sources - Transportation - Recycling

  6. Step # 4 • Complete a graphic organizer about your chosen topic:

  7. Step # 5 • Using the knowledge you have gained about Global Warming and how to Go Green create a 3-5 minute PowerPoint presentation for your classmates. Include in the PowerPoint: ~ What topic you chose and why ~ What is happening now and what can we do differently as an individual/school **You will be taking notes on everyone’s presentation so make it clear and pay attention!!

  8. After the Presentations • We will have a brief class discussion about what we have learned. • After the discussion each group will construct a formal/professional letter to the School Board with realistic suggestions of how our school can go green. • Suggestions must be supported with facts or examples.

  9. All Year Long • Every quarter we will all have the opportunity to take the CO2 test to see if we are reaching our class goal.

  10. Evaluation This assignment will be based out of 100 points. Group Work: 10 pts Completion of handout: 20 pts Presentation: 30 pts Notes on Presentations: 10 pts Formal Letter to the Board: 30 pts
