Tornado ShelterThe Need: • Five mobile home parks, scores of homes, and dozens of businesses with no access to a tornado shelter • Designated shelters inside Howard County government buildings are often not open to the public, especially evenings and weekends • Walking distance to downtown and parking can be issues in a storm emergency

  10. Meeting AreasThe Need: • A venue for formal gatherings is not available in the surrounding area • Community events • Social gatherings • Business meetings

Storm Shelter and Meeting AreasThe Solution: • A large basement to accommodate the people who live and work in the area during a storm emergency • Large and smaller meeting rooms for groups to meet formally and informally • Multi-purpose rooms for senior activities, teen use, child care, and other community meeting needs

  12. Job TrainingThe Need: • Auto industry situation • Job outsourcing • Declining demand for industrial jobs • Economic development • New jobs and businesses

  13. Job TrainingThe Solution: • Job training facility • Strategically placed • Privately funded • Salvation Army • Three month re-entry programs • Goodwill • Life skills programs, classes in reading, math, computers, language skills, high school equivalency preparation and more

  15. Job Information CenterThe Need and Solution: • Information on local employers’ needs • Employers able to list openings • Job seekers know where to apply for work • Job seekers able to train for in-demand jobs

  16. Senior Citizens’ CenterThe Need: • More activities on the north end of Kokomo • More space for activities • More parking
