  3. Criminal Courts(2) 1Commit accused: (1) The Magistates’ Courts-petty crime (2) The Crown Court-severe punishment (theft, assault, drug dealing, murder) 2 jury of 12 people 3 If leave to appeal is granted by that court, cases may go on appeal to the House of Lords.

Criminal Proceedings(3) • 1 System: adversarial • 2Burden of proof about crime: • beyond reasonable doubt • 3Bail: Release the accused temporarily, but some times bail may be refused if there are grounds for believing that accused would fail to appear for trial or commit an offence. • 4Preparatory hearing -the jury sworn in -prosecutordisclosure the evidence-trial.
