  3. Production show dates • December, 4,5,6 -7pm nightly • (Morning shows- students only, no public viewing)

  4. Company rules • 1. Students are to bring a healthy snack and water to rehearsal. • 2. Two unexcused absences will result in loss of part or being reassigned to a different role, or expulsion from the play all together. • 3. All Allen ISD Code of Conduct rules apply. • 4. Time is of the essence so please pick up your student on time at the end of each rehearsal! • 5. We get it- emergencies happen- please email Mrs. Balogh.

  5. Parents needed! • Parent Volunteer Coordinator- I need a parent I can email who can communicate with the parents. I can certainly communicate with parents also but please know this is a huge project( that I love and choose to produce) however I do still teach 6 classes daily as well as have a family after rehearsal. • Parent Advertising Coordinator- Get the word out to the community about our production. You will work with Mrs. Balogh on the Ereckson Way to advertise  • Parent Program Coordinator- I have a template- you will need to coordinate the pictures of cast members, tech crew, Bios, and type the program. • Parent Snack Program- We serve cast and crew during dress rehearsal and during the show with snacks and water.

  6. Parents needed! • Parent Construction Coordinator: Parents who can build platforms out of plywood etc… ( I will buy the materials but I need you to bring your own tools) You will work closely with Mrs. B- for set design. • Parent Costume Coordinator: I have already begun the process and would love to have many parents who sew help out. I do need one person as a liaison to know what is needed. • Parent Ticket Coordinator: This parent will coordinate selling tickets and running the house the night of the shows. They will need to assemble parents to take money, count the cash and turn into the office safe with Mrs. B and the SRO officer. • Parents who are willing to Host Cast Part after production: It takes an army and celebrating after their huge accomplishment is no different. You can come up with an array of ideas. Sometimes they ask the kids to pay a small fee and go to Cosmic jump etc.. or someone’s home or renting out a club house to dance, eat and celebrate. The cast party is usually after the last show that night. Mrs. Balogh, Mr. Buntyn and Ms. Whitney are not in charge of the cast party nor do we stay the entire time. We are dragging on this night. We make an appearance, eat cake, celebrate and then run to our cars to get home to our bed! All for now. Parents I want you to feel connected and included. If there is a job out there you can think of that will add to the ease of running the show then please email me.

  8. Parent volunteers • Go to www.allenisd.org and register to be a volunteer.

Why Produce a Musical? • Self-Confidence: Throughout the rehearsal and performance process, young performers discover how to take creative and emotional risks and learn to trust their abilities. • Literacy: Students increase reading and writing skills at their own pace by immersing themselves in the story, reading and re-reading their scripts, memorizing their lines and taking notes at rehearsal. • Communication: During rehearsals, students learn how to articulate their thoughts and questions and carefully listen to direction in order to improve their performances. • Imagination: Theatre is most dynamic when the imaginations of its participants are fully engaged. Students make countless interpretive choices in design and performance to create a detailed, fictional world for their audiences.

  10. Why produce a musical? • Empathy: Through character work and story creation, young performers explore the lives of others. First-hand perspectives of new circumstances challenge prejudices and aid in the development of well-rounded students and citizens. • Critical Thinking & Problem Solving: The amount of work required to successfully put on a show makes all participants valuable troubleshooters. Whether inventing mnemonics to remember lines, adjusting staging to show off everyone’s faces, or mastering a tricky scene change, students have countless opportunities to creatively tackle challenges. • Self-Discipline: Through prompt attendance at rehearsals and learning lines, music and choreography on schedule, students acquire valuable self-discipline techniques and become reliable and trustworthy members of an ensemble. • Community Awareness: A theatrical production provides ample opportunities to connect with our families and neighbors. Students can engage parents, community centers and local vendors to help create sets, props, costumes and publicity.

  11. Why produce a musical? • Public Speaking: Whether performing for their peers during rehearsal or for their school and local community during a performance, students gain expertise and confidence speaking in front of a group.

  12. Attendance • I’m just in the chorus- does it matter if I attend rehearsal? • ANSWER- all parts are important, if you miss rehearsal there is no extra time to reteach what you missed. • I’m just in the tech crew, is it okay if I miss my rehearsal? • ANSWER- same as above- all members of the company are important to having a successful production. • I have a lot of homework- is it okay for me to miss rehearsal? • ANSWER- NO!!! Everyone has homework including Mrs. Balogh, there are no excuses.

  13. Lets Talk About Thanksgiving! The dates are November 23 vs November 30 for dress rehearsal? We’ll vote as a group, majority rules-which day TBA.

Parent Homework • E-mail diane_balogh@allenisd.org the following information; • 1. your name- to verify you were present at the meeting, or have viewed it online, for those that were absent. • 2. vote on November 23, or November 30, which day is best for dress rehearsal. N • *Note* if you are out of town both weekends,- I understand, however please know you will miss dress rehearsal. • 3. please consider signing up to be a volunteer.
