Ukraine's factories once produced military arsenal, but the dissolution of the U.S.S.R. led to a shift towards manufacturing civilian products like trolley buses, tractors, and motorcycles. These factories also produce automobiles, refrigerators, and more. Chemical factories aid agriculture with fertilizers. Ukraine's mines yield resources like iron ore and natural gas. The country's main imports include oil, natural gas, rubber, wood, and textiles, leading to a trade deficit.

At one time Ukraine’s factories made military weapons, rockets, missiles, fighter planes and ships. When the U.S.S.R. was dissolved there was no need to make all of these weapons anymore.
Many of these factories are now making trolley buses, tractors, motorcycles and fire trucks.
Some factories also make automobiles, refrigerators, television sets, washing machines, clothing, shoes and packaged foods.
Chemical factories make fertilizers and pesticides to help the country’s crops grow bigger and better.
Some factories process foods such as sugar refineries, meat processing and packaging, plants, fruit, vegetable canneries, dairies and wineries.
Ukraine’s main imports are oil, natural gas, rubber, wood, textiles and consumer goods. Because Ukraine imports (buys) more than it exports (sells), it has a “trade deficit”. This means there is more money going out than coming into Ukraine.
