  5. Warm-Up • When did you do the majority of the research for your poster? • Did you have your poster-board turned in on time? • Did you use Tuesday’s class time in the computer lab effectively? EXPLAIN • Did you use Friday’s class time to work on your poster effectively? EXPLAIN • Did you use the weekend to finish your poster? EXPLAIN • Are you ready to present today? WHY OR WHY NOT?

Welcome to 9th Grade AVID Assignments Due: Binder check in class FRIDAY Poster Presentations DUE TODAY Tuesday Sept 2, 2014 Today’s Agenda: Warm-up Pass out binder check checklists Dates for Cornell Notes and/or Learning Log must be from 9/2 – 9/5 Pass out Field Trip forms College Poster presentations Essential Question: How do I determine what college or university would be the best choice for my future? Objective: I will research information about a college or university to make a poster and present the information to the class.

Welcome to 9th Grade AVID Assignments Due: Binder check in class FRIDAY Thursday Sept 4, 2014 Today’s Agenda: Warm-up Finish College Poster Presentations Finish Brain Teaser Tutorial practice Work on getting ready for your binder check Essential Question: How do I prepare and participate in a tutorial? Objective: I will practice participating in a tutorial.

  11. Warm-up - Put the following steps of the tutorial process in order: A. Group members check for understanding as the presenter reviews the work B. Students verify their learning in their academic classes C. Students take Cornell notes in their academic classes. D. Students are divided into tutorial groups E. Students turn in their TRFs to the teacher for grading and feedback F. As students enter the room, the teacher checks their TRF pre-work G. The student begins by giving a 30 second speech about their pre-work H. Students complete a written reflection on the learning that occurred I. Steps 5 and 6 are repeated for as many group members as time allows J. Students complete the pre-work inquiry on the TRF form.

Welcome to 9th Grade AVID Assignments Due: Binder check in class TODAY Friday Sept 1, 2014 Today’s Agenda: Warm-up Binder Checks Partner Interview Activity Essential Question: How can I work collaboratively with others? Objective: I will participate in team building lessons to learn about valuing and effectively working with others.

  14. Binder checks • Meet with your assigned person • Check/grade each other’s binders • Sign your name on their binder check sheet • Turn in your Binder Check Grade Form into the class basket • Get with your interview partner

Binder Check • Each missing Cornell Notes/Learning Log = subtract 5 points • Each missing area in the planner =subtract 1 point • Each missing required material = subtract 1 point • If their binder is messy or has random papers that have not been filed = subtract points • PRINT your name where it says “Tutor Initials”

  16. Partner Interview Instructions • Pick up a copy of the interview cards • Meet with your partner • Ask your partner the questions and write down their responses on your interview cards • Use scissors to cut the page into interview cue cards • Get a blank piece of paper and make a name sign that combines both of your names together (Bennifer/Brangelina) • Be prepared to share your partner name and introduce your partner to the class on Monday
