  2. Characteristics of the trip • Guided by Ray Goodwin. Lina Patel, Alan Pinnington, Keiron Powell • Expedition: Travel down a river system. • Self sufficient. No third party company, flexibility and quality. • Challenging: Campcraft • Look after ourselves. • Set up own tent, cook etc… • Can be used for DofE gold award. • Great for your UCAS form! • A step up from the Ardeche. • One of a kind in Warrington.

Travel • Depart L/S : 8am 21st July • Board Ferry (Newcastle): 2.15pm (Cabins of 3.) • Disembark (Bergen Norway): 6pm 22 rd July • Camp in Norway: 11pm • Arrive in Sweden: 10pm 23th July Return • Drive through Norway • Camp in Norway • Board Ferry : 9am 3rd Aug. • Disembark: 10.30am 4th Aug • Arrive a L/S: 3pm.

  6. Food • Most of the cooking will be done on camp fires and Kelly kettles. • Plan to eat like Kings and Queens! There will be a variety of foods we can cook. • Pasta/rice dishes, spag bol, risottos, • Veggie dishes. • Soups and stews, • Pizza • Breads and pancakes • Porridge and dried fruits/honey. • Trout • Chocolate. Most important thing is that we eat.

  7. Equipment taking with us: Canoes, paddles. Waterproof canoe top and sallopettes. Buoyancy aids. Montana tops. Thermarest roll mat. Ultra light tents. Tarp shelters. Water purifiers. Cooking stoves. Kelly kettles. Dutch ovens. Solar shower. Canoe trolleys Fire boxes

Funds Due to the nature of the expeditions, we aim to make trips all-inclusive. • One person down. • Increase cost of food and fuel. • Poor result from the sponsored abseil. • Received £500 from SBE Electrical. • Raised £1500 from out of school events run by Kp & Ap. • Food on ferry (£25) • Spending money: • We will be in the wilderness!!! Few opportunities to spend anything. • Ferry (Meals) • Stops along the driven part of the journey. (£40?)

Kit list: Clothing for land use: Waterproof coat (for use on land).(Cheap light weight) Waterproof bottoms (for use on land). ).(Cheap light weight) Warm hat & gloves.(Leather type garden gloves would be ideal) Sun hat (not a baseball cap). Shorts. (x2) Tee-shirts.(x4) (Decathlon wicking tops) Heavy weight bottoms / top for evening wear. (Ex German army shirt/ Cragghopper Nosquito) Footwear for evening with a good quality sole. Socks.(You can wash these) Underwear. Warm top (Thin fleece type). (Monatana) Towel small. (Travel/camping towel) Washing kit. (Bio-degradable) Clothing for canoe use: 2 x full sets of canoeing clothing (short /tee-shirt / tracksuit etc). Canoeing shoes with good quality sole, Old trainers (Not wetsuit boots). Equipment: Warm sleeping bag (it will get cold in the evening). Sun cream (very high factor). Lip Cream. Insect repellent / bite cream for 15 days!!!. Insect face/head cover. Small first aid kit. (Plasters, personal medication) Head torch & spare batteries. Plastic water bottle. Plastic cup / plate or bowl / Knife / Fork & Spoon. (Tesco camp cooking kit) Note: Mobile phones/I pods etc… You will probably not be able to get a signal when on the river system. No responsibility will be taken by the school if they get lost or stolen. Do take a camera.

  10. Health and Safety Safety on the water: Quality Coaching team. Vast amount of paddling experience. Quality Kit. Trained 1st aiders, Ap a first aid training provider. Kp & Ap experienced drivers. Brand new mini bus, with digital taco. Biggest challenge will be camp craft. Training session have been run in relation to fire lighting. Food hygiene. No perishable food will be taken. Pupils will be briefed on food hygiene, when on site. All water will be purified, although drinkable. Obviously the consumption of alcohol, drugs or tobacco is forbidden. Consent forms MUST BE UP TO DATE.
