  1. No Sprinklers No Drip lines No plowing, tilling or media exchange Plants grow in common sand Passive sub--irrigation 100% efficient, sub-fertilization Growth bed is also heat sink to buffer temperatures for cooling in summer, heating in winter!

  2. OTHER GREENHOUSE FEATURES • Steel framework as the EPIC growing bed provides strong lifetime durability. • Lightweight polycarbonate sheathing has ten year warranty and filters intense Nevada sunlight by diffusion (notice no harsh shadows). • Double polycarbonate air channels provide insulation and will allow water flow in roof panels to be recirculated to pick up additional sunlight generated heat during very hot days. Small pump from reservoir where water is cooled flows through polycarbonate roof panels to gutter, to reservoir, and back to roof. • Planned geo-thermal well will provide heating source for winter nights. • Irrigation, fertilization, heating and cooling systems will be low energy and totally automated with manual overrides. • Planned 40,000 SF production greenhouse (10x larger) can be made sustainable by total storm water capture and reuse from roof, parking areas and other hardscapes. • A two year comparative study with 750 cucumber plants in Dubai showed that the EPIC sand hydroponics system used 80% less water, 50% less fertilizer, but produced three times the production volume than the current drip system.

  3. Sub Surface reservoir below EPIC Garden pre-filters, collects and stores all rain events from greenhouse roof (4,000 SF) for reuse as irrigation and cooling water 1” of rain produces 2,500 gallons of pure water. 4 3 5 2 1

  4. Vertical riser is connected to buried reservoir at the base and provides access to reservoir water through submersible pump, which feeds a pressure tank in greenhouse. Risers are also access points to fill reservoir with auxiliary water from other sources. • Folded single piece EPDM liner prevents water loss from reservoir. • Large open bottom modular chambers provide needed void space to store water indefinitely underground without algae growth. • Fine gravel fill envelope around and above chambers provides an additional 38% void space, and the self compacting filled reservoir provides a stable foundation for any surface load activity. • Secondary risers can be added to reservoirs for other uses. In this instance the second riser is the access point for fire fighting requirements. This small linear reservoir holds 8,000 gallons. In the planned 40,000 SF adjoining greenhouse reservoir units will be placed under the floor bed to collect all hardscape water runoff. The much larger volume will also provide a heat sink exchange and a sustainable irrigation water source.

  6. EPDM liner prevents water or nutrient loss to ground below. • EPIC chamber transfers water or air uniformly into or out of the sand profile by capillary action and the chamber never gets blocked. • Six inch side inlet manifold distributes water and air evenly to EPIC chamber connections for gravity driven distribution. • Cooled or heated air from sub-surface profile is transmitted to greenhouse interior for recirculation from thermostat operated blower. • Return flow of fertilized water returns through 6” outlet manifold to inlet/outlet control vault. • Small fountain pump in inlet/outlet vault pumps water to inlet manifold (3) on a programmed basis at under 2 gallons per minute. New water is added when needed by automatic float valve. At determined saturation level in bed return flow is recirculated through system and float valve shuts off. • Greenhouse bed is divided into two 18’ wide EPIC growing beds by up-righted liner walls and walkway gap. The same or separate chemistry formulation can be made in either bed.
