  5. What does music do for you? • What is a song you remember from your teens or early 20’s? • Why do you remember it? • What lyrics do you remember? • What time period does it make you remember? • How does it make you feel?

  7. Why use music? • improves comprehension skills • helps to develop good pronunciation • increases vocabulary • gives a natural rhythm to speech patterns and language • helps your memory • takes some boredom out of grammar rules • brings culture alive • it’s fun fun = more motivation to learn

What kinds of music? • Not just Juanes, Shakira, Ricky Martin and La Macarena!!! • Rock Tango • Pop Flamenco • Merengue Country • Bachata Jazz • Salsa Folk • Indie Traditional • Classic Reggaeton • Bolero Son • Alternative Norteña • Instrumental Intentional to teach • Corridos Emo • Cumbia The types of music are always expanding!!!

When to use music? • warm up: can you identify who it is, or type of music, or where they are from, or what words d you hear, what do you think it’s about based on the video • listening activity for a specific word, phrase,or phrases. You don’t need to understand the whole thing. Maybe you are just playing the chorus or a verse. • to put grammar/vocabulary in “REAL” context • to portray culture • To reach students who think they hate Spanish

  13. How to convert youtube videos or other videos that may be blocked by your school system • Click on the video that you want to convert so that you open it in a new screen. Copy the URL address. • Go to zamzar.com and follow these steps: • Click on the highlighted blue URL in Step 1 • When the Step 1 box changes to http: paste your URL address from the youtube video in the space provided. • In the Step 2 box, choose MPG • In the Step 3 box, enter your e-mail address • In the Step 4 box, click on CONVERT • Another box will pop up, click OK • Within 5 minutes to an hour, the converted video file will show up in your e-mail. The link that it contains will only remain active for about 20 hours, so you must download it quickly. • Click on the link in your e-mail. It will give you the option to open or save it. Choose save, and save it to your pin drive. Don’t worry about the fact that it is listed in all numbers and letters. You can rename the file once it is on your pin drive.
