What can the School do to help your child? Malay Language Reading Programmes: BacalahSayang: Aims to help pupils who do not have the basic reading skills. Pupils will be guided to read using the phonics system. E.R.P. (Extensive Reading Programme): Aims to instil the love for reading among students. It is hope that the programme would be an impetus for students to develop a habit for lifelong reading. N.I.L.A.M. (NilaiIlmumeLaluiAmalanMembaca): Aims to develop the pupils reading habit. Pupils are required to give simple synopsis of the books they read which will be monitored by parents and teachers.
What your child needs to know? Basic reading pronunciation ~ vocals and consonants. For e.g. a, é, e, u, i, o (Vowels) and b, c, m, t (consonants). The differentiation of pronunciation between words with é and e. For e.g. sémak (e taling) bermaksudmemeriksakembali. semak(e pepet) bermaksudpokok-pokokkecil.
How parents can help? Cultivategood reading habit to acquire more vocabulary. Expose your child to different types of reading materials and provide opportunities for him/her to read on a daily basis (reading time as a family). Expose your child to proverbs, phrasal verbs, common phrases to enrich their vocabulary.
