  7. Support to the National Program for Food Security (SNPFS) • An initiative of the Federal Government of Nigeria supported by: • African Development Bank • Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) • Bank for Economic Development in Africa (BADEA). African Development Bank Group 13

Support to the National Program for Food Security (SNPFS) Objective of the Program To contribute to improved national food security and reduction in poverty on an economically and environmentally sustainable basis by increasing the agricultural outputs and incomes of rural farming households and beneficiary communities. Support to the National Program for Food Security (SNPFS) The project is supporting farmers in crop and non-crop agricultural enterprises • Also promotes the participation of women to enhance their leading role in key agricultural activities particularly • Agro-processing • Food production • Income diversification opportunities that will improve food security African Development Bank Group 13

  11. Support to the National Program for Food Security (SNPFS) • Principal benefits : • Improved food security for the about 70,000 farm households participating in the site development programme and for 785,000 farm families covered under the Outreach Programme; African Development Bank Group 13

Support to the National Program for Food Security (SNPFS) Impact of Project Intervention • create a change in attitude towards repayment of loans by the farmers. • farmers purchased their fertilizers, agrochemicals and seeds on their own without waiting for government • organic fertilizers and compost-plus organic fertilizers distributed to the farmer groups resulted in over 120% and 100% yield increases in cassava and maize respectively.   14. Support to the National Program for Food Security (SNPFS) • Aggregate economic analysis of farmer enterprise showed that farmers operated on a cost-benefit ratio of 1: 2.4. African Development Bank Group 13

  16. RURAL ACCESS & MOBILITY PROJECT CRSG has committed itself to finance the asphalt concrete pavement of the entire feeder roads network. Share of works cost (Total NGN 20.3 billion): ADF - NGN 7.0 billion (34.5%) CRSG - NGN 13.3 billion (65.5%) • Implementation of 474 km feeder roads rehabilitation and upgrading works by Contractors – on-going, at about 20 to 40% completion African Development Bank Group 13

NEW OPERATIONS IN SUPPORT OF AGRICULTURAL DEVELOPMENT • US$ 155 million budget support loan for an Economic and Power Sector Reform Programme (approved 2009, signed 2012) • Two sovereign guarantee loans to the Bank of Industry (US$ 500 million) and the Nigeria Export and Import Bank (US$ 200million) for on-lending to Small and Medium Enterprises – Agro-Industries (approved 2012, signature outstanding) African Development Bank Group 13
