  2. Why the Focus on Alzheimer’s? • Over 5 million Americans live with Alzheimer’s • Every 67 seconds someone in the United States develops Alzheimer’s • Nearly half a million people in the U.S. die from Alzheimer’s each year, making it the 6th leading cause of death

  3. What is Alzheimer’s? Alzheimer’s disease is the most common form of dementia. It is caused by damage to neurons in the brain associated with memory and other cognitive skills. Alzheimer’s patients can be affected in critical ways, including: • Declined memory • Altered behavior • Loss of ability to think clearly • Impaired control over bodily functions • Emotional volatility • Bed bound • Need for around-the-clock care
