  1. The Human Brain Are you LEFT or RIGHT Brain Dominant?

  2. Left Brain versus Right Brain • The human brain is divided into two (2) hemispheres: the left and the right. • Studies have shown that some cognitive functions (“skills of the brain”) tend to be dominated by one side or the other. • Much of this information comes from studying brain injuries. • People tend to be either left or right brain dominant; however, contrary to popular belief, no one is “left-brain only” or “right-brain only.

  3. Specialties of the Left Brain • The left side of the brain is often thought as being the logical, rational, thinking side. • Deals with language, mathematical processes, and logical analysis. • Controls the right side of the body.

  4. The Left Brain • classical music • verbal instructions • mathematics • reading • dog lover • cannot be hypnotized • don`t enjoy “clowning around” • need quiet to read/study • do things in planned, orderly way • rarely absent minded • think better sitting down • prefer well-structured assignments • like to be organized • analytic • logical • sequential • analytical • objective Things associated with the left brain include...

  5. The Left Brain • lab scientist • banker • judge • lawyer • mathematician • bacteriologist • Librarian • skating judge, skiing judge, etc. Careers associated with the left brain include...

  6. Specialties of the Right Brain • The right side of the brain is often thought as being the artistic, more creative side. • Deals with music, visual images, and emotions. • Controls the left side of the body.

  7. The Right Brain • rock music • visual instructions • good at sports • good at art • cat lover • enjoys “clowning around” • can be hypnotized • like fantasy/mystery stories • can listen to noise while studying • good at geometry • occasionally absentminded • think better when lying down • spontaneous and unpredictable • a dreamer • philosophical • disorganized • procrastinates • subjective Things associated with the right brain include...

  8. The Right Brain • forest ranger • wildlife manager • beautician • politician • athlete • artist • craftsman • actor/actress Careers associated with the right brain include...

Often when making complex decisions we do not consider all relevant factors.
