  3. Overview of the System • What do you need in order to use AZ CAS? • A connection to the WWW (via MAC or PC). • We are working on paper reports as well. • A browser that is java-enabled, and accepts cookies. • Netscape Navigator 4.0 or better is the national standard. • Internet Explorer 4.01 or better is the national standard. • MCCCD’s CAS Team has established higher standards for browser versions! • Ideally, you would want: • A very fast connection to the web (ethernet is best, a modem connection at 28/8 would be minimal) • A very fast and clear local computing network. • For help in navigating through CAS, print the “Guided Tour” document. • Go to http://www.public.asu.edu/cas, and select “CAS Guide”

  4. Overview of the System • How does AZ CAS work? • There are two software applications involved in creating AZ CAS. • A web interface application (“CAS”) creates the web pages • A transfer articulation/degree audit application (“DARwin”) processes the course information that’s entered, and produces the various reports. • The data displayed in AZ CAS are maintained by the participating schools. • CEG information is maintained by the “target” school. • Degree audit and course bank information are maintained by the school that offers the programs or courses.

  5. How can AZ CAS be used? • What are the key functions of AZ CAS? • Course Equivalency Guide • Contains course equivalency rules for transfer between any Arizona Community College and any public Arizona University. • Does not contain any information about how transferred courses might (or might not) apply to a degree program.

  6. How can CAS be used? • Academic Programs • Academic Program information for all of ASU’s academic programs (for catalogs through 1999) is available today. • MCCCD plans to provide AGEC and pathway information soon. • Course Information • MCCCD has provided a course bank import containing current and past course information (from 1985 to current).

  7. How can CAS be used? • Equivalency information availability in AZ CAS: • Now: • For the academic years 1990-1991 through 1999-2000. • For transfer to ASU Main, ASU West, NAU and UA • For transfer from any Arizona Community College • Soon: • For courses taken in Fall 2000 • All ASU Main and ASU West equivalencies will be available by MAY 1, 2000. • All NAU and UA equivalencies will be available no later than AUGUST 1, 2000.
