Riverside Library Read-a-thon. Why do we have a fund-raiser for the library?. Raise money for: buying new library books (students are surveyed for specific titles they want.) buying prizes for Book Bugs program, books for our Chew ‘N Chat book club, etc. What else??. “Read-a-thon”.

  1. Riverside Library Read-a-thon

  2. Why do we have a fund-raiser for the library? • Raise money for: buying new library books (students are surveyed for specific titles they want.) buying prizes for Book Bugs program, books for our Chew ‘N Chat book club, etc. • What else??

  3. “Read-a-thon” • Raise money by reading books!

  4. How does this work? • 1) Get money pledges from family, friends of the family, people that you know. • 2) Read for 2 weeks and record the number of books read. **Since you read longer, chapter books, every 25 pages of a book will count as one book. • 3) After the 2 weeks are up, collect money from pledges and return it to the library.

  5. When are we doing this? • Starts Feb. 1st – Feb. 12th • Collect pledge money by Feb. 19th

  6. Reading Packets… Packets have an envelope to collect pledge money, a pledge sheet, a reading tally sheet to keep track of books and a letter to parents explaining the Read-a-thon.

  7. Chapter books… • Every 25 pages of a chapter book will count as one “book” on our tally sheet…

  8. PRIZES • Those who read without fundraising will receive a lollipop. • 4th place winners – Those who READ AT LEAST 10 books AND COLLECT AT LEAST $15 – receive a bookmark and lollipop.

  9. PRIZES • 3rd place winners – Those who READ AT LEAST 15 books AND COLLECT AT LEAST $25 – receive an engraved bronze medal, a $2.00 Barnes and Noble Bookstore gift certificate and a lollipop.

  10. PRIZES • 2nd place winners – Those who READ AT LEAST 20 books AND COLLECT AT LEAST $35– receive an engraved silver medal, a $5.00 Barnes and Noble Bookstore gift certificate and a lollipop.

  11. PRIZES • 1st place winners – Those who READ AT LEAST 25 books AND COLLECT AT LEAST $50 – receive an engraved gold medal, a $10.00 Barnes and Noble Bookstore gift certificate and a lollipop.

  12. GRAND PRIZE The student who has raised the largest amount of money will receive a $25 gift certificate to Barnes and Noble and a trophy.

  16. In the past…. At other schools students who participated read over 1,000 books and raised over $2,000! How did they do it?
