You will be asked to name the notes on the staff. Some of the notes are on ledger lines above and below the staff. Take your time in figuring these out – follow the musical alphabet carefully forward and backward. Do 25 problems and show me your score.

Then play a round or two of Happy Note Tetris which can be found on the desktop of this computer. There are three levels: Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced. Play at the level you think you are at.

This is a partner activity. Get one felt staff board and a few note heads. (Or get the floor staff and use your body as a note head). One partner will be the quizzer and one person will be the creator. The quizzer will give the creator a note name and the creator will place the note head on the staff. The quizzer can certainly make it more challenging as needed, example: put a note head on the note which is two steps under line B, put a note head on the note an octave above

Line E, etc...

Note name dominoes. Dealer shuffles all cards and passes seven out to each player, the rest of the cards go into a draw pile face down. Place the starting card in the center. Player who did not shuffle goes first. You are to place one of the cards in your hand next to one end of the starting card if you have a card that matches the same note as the starting card. If you don’t have the same note you must draw a card from the draw pile and the play goes to the next person. The person who runs out of cards first wins.

You are to create an themed music book using the musical alphabet. Therefore you will have seven pages in your book and may also have a cover if you choose. Each letter of the alphabet should be illustrated in a creative way, the illustration having to do with your theme (birds, flowers, insects, weather, breeds of dogs, etc…) and should be shown on the treble clef staff. Marker, colors, colored pencils, paper, scissors and other supplies are at the back of the room, if you need something which is not there please ask.

You should end up with 7 pages in your book – page 1 is devoted to the note A - show where it is on the staff as well as illustrating it; page 2 is devoted to the note B – show where it is on the staff as well as illustrating, etc…

If there are more than one note for a letter please show both.
