  2. Highlights • Secure ID • Roadside data collection - Courts • NLETS standardization project • XML activities • ANSI D20 data dictionary • International standards for licenses • NMVITS

  3. Roadside Data Collection • Coordinate state efforts to: • Automate the collection of citation data at roadside • Pass data to the courts • Pass court dispositions to appropriate licensing agencies • MCSIA - conviction posting within 10 days • Stakeholder relationships being solidified

  4. NLETS Standardization Project • Focus: Driver Status & Driver History • Standardize data element formats and definitions used by LE personnel to exchange driver records over NLETS using a standard AAMVA Driver Data dictionary • Transitional protocol for legacy systems, ultimate desire is XML

  5. XML • April 2000 = inaugural meeting of IT Committee's XML Working Group • First project adopted: Driver History • March 2001: AAMVA XML Driver History transaction published • Next project = Vehicle Inquiry

XML: But wait, there’s more . . . • Discovery of multiple development efforts to standardize XML transactions for driver and vehicle data: • NLETS – Law Enforcement • XML Justice Data Dictionary Subcommittee (Global Justice Information Network, various DOJ agencies, US Attorney General) – Law Enforcement & Court Systems

  7. XML • September 2001 – AAMVA & NLETS joined XML Justice Data Dictionary Subcommittee to consolidate efforts • Basic work has been mostly completed • AAMVA continues to work with NLETS to standardize driver messages in XML and develop interim solutions

ANSI D20 • Data Dictionary for Traffic Record Information Systems • Canvass list developed June 2002 • Edits to D20 are mostly prepared for distribution – one last snag • Approximately 300 amendments (new and revised elements) • Future inclusion of XML tags • Estimated completion date: February 2003

ISO JTC1 / SC17 / WG10 • Develop ISO standard for driver licenses to aid international recognition • Three phases: • Physical layout and properties (July 2002) • Machine-readable technologies (August 2003) • Biometrics (August 2003) • Phase I includes human readable elements, vehicle categories, restrictions, document security

NMVTIS • Birth-to-death record of vehicles • MCO direct from manufacturers = birth cert • Title documents from states = ID cards • Branding from states / insurance companies for non-repairable = death cert • Reduces fraud & theft • Status: 12 states running, 6 in development, 2 more awaiting grant approval

  11. Other AAMVA Activities • USA PATRIOTS Act Implementation • MCSIA • SSOLV • Other ANSI standards (biometrics, card design & durability, etc.)
