  1. Auto Auction Tips and Tricks Attending an auto auction can be intimidating at first, but with a few tips and some research, it can be a fun experience. Understanding the process and rules for bidding is the first step to purchasing a car at an auction. If possible, after arriving early to inspect the vehicles, listen and watch the auctioneer during the first few sales to learn his cadence and mannerisms for conducting the auto auction. Knowing the terminology and abbreviated speech that the auctioneer uses is important to feeling comfortable with what is going on. If you're unsure of the current bid, or who is ahead in the bidding, don't be afraid to ask an assistant for clarification. Auto auctions generally move at a very rapid pace. So it is very important to act quickly when your car of interest comes up for sale. Be sure to get in a good position so that the auctioneer or auctioneer assistant can see you, also be sure to raise your hand high. But if you're not interested in the vehicle currently up for auction, be sure to not make any motions or signals that would indicate you want to place a bid. You certainly don't want to accidentally place a bid on a car that you don't want.

Try to attend a few auctions before participating in the bidding. This is a good way to become familiar with the auction process. It is also a great way to learn who the regulars are and how they like to go about bidding and what kinds of vehicles they are looking for.
