3. Your Schedule Request Card This printed lightly on your cards. In pencil, please lightly write on your card the words you see here.

4. New this year … • This year your teachers in the 4 core areas of English, Math, Science, and Social Studies plus World Languages will be making the recommendations for your next course in IC. • What this means is you should talk to your teacher about what you would like to take next year prior to coming to the computer lab. The teacher should tell you whether that is appropriate for you. • When you go to the computer lab to enter your requests, the teachers recommendations will already be there. You will not be able to change them. • The teacher recommendations only apply to the required courses. Elective classes will be available for you to request when you come to the computer lab with your English class.

5. Let’s Begin with English • For current 9th graders: • English II OR Advanced English II • For current 10th graders: • English III OR AP English Language and Composition • For current 11th graders: • English IV OR Dual Credit English 101 and 102 OR AP English Literature and Composition **If you wish to take either of the AP English Courses you must have approval from an English Teacher

Moving on to Math • If your current math class is Algebra I • Geometry A OR Geometry OR Advanced Geometry • If your current math class is Geometry • Algebra II OR Advanced Algebra II • If your current math class is Algebra II • Pre-calculus OR Advanced Pre-calculus OR Intro to College Algebra OR Advanced College Algebra OR Applied Mathematics OR AP Statistics • If your current math class is Pre-calculus • Calculus I OR Advanced College Algebra OR AP Calculus AB OR AP Statistics OR AP Calculus BC

7. A Few Math Notes • Your math teacher knows what is appropriate for your next math course • The math teachers will be making requests in IC for appropriate placement for next year. • The only opportunities to double up on required math courses are to take both Geometry and Algebra II. • AP Statistics may be taken concurrently with any math course after Algebra II. • If you sign up for AP Calculus BC, you must also sign up for AP Calculus AB. • Must have a minimum of 1 math course each year.

8. And Now We Have Science • If your current science class is Principles of Science: • CCR Biology • If your current science class is CCR Biology: • Chemistry I OR Advanced Chemistry I • If your current science class is Chemistry I or Adv. Chemistry I: • If you took POS, select a science elective from the next slide. • If didn’t take POS you must take : • Physics I OR Advanced Physics I • If your current science class is Physics: • If you have earned 4 science credits, no further science classes are required. • If you have not earned 4 science credits, select a course from the next slide

Here are the Social Studies • If you are currently taking Survey of Social Studies OR AP Human Geography : • World Civilizations OR AP World History • If you are currently taking World Civilizations OR AP World History: • U. S. History OR AP U. S. History • If your current class is U.S. History: • If you have a Geography or Survey of Social Studies, World Civ., Econ/Govt., and U.S. History credit, no more social studies course are required, however you are welcome to take a social studies elective.

11. A Few Notes on Social Studies • You must complete an essay and be accepted into the AP World History course. • Social Studies electives will be listed on a slide to come a bit later.

College Courses • If you are interested in taking a course during the school day at UofL or at JCTC, please see your counselor. • This would be a dual credit opportunity • It must fit into your SOHS schedule • You will be responsible for all paperwork related to college enrollment and registration

BRAND NEW OPPORTUNITY • LINK CREW • Open to current 10th-11th grade students; application required • Work with incoming 9th grade students to help them transition to high school life • 1 credit elective class • If selected, you will help plan and run the freshmen orientation this summer, plan and deliver lessons during the year to freshmen, be a leader and friend to a group of about 10 freshmen. • See Ms. Sandor (rm. 116) or Ms. Hunt (rm. 108) for application • If you are interested in being a Link Leader write Link Crew in one spot of your scheduling card. If you are not selected we will replace it with one of your alternate choices.

26. Classes Available at the Art Center • The following are enrichment programs offered outside of the school day: • Visual Art Portfolio Preparatory Class (afterschool one day a week from 4-7) • Oldham County Chamber Ensemble (afterschool one day a week from 4:30-6:00) • Oldham County Jazz Connection (before school three days a week from 7:00-8:00 AM)
