  1. Technology & Engineering Introduction Vocabulary

  2. What is Technology? • Human innovation in action that involves the generation of knowledge and processes that develop systems that solve problems and extend human capabilities.

  3. Technological Resources • People • Energy – ability to do work. (force needed to move an object) • Capital – Money, property, stock, etc. • Information – Technical know how • Tools & Machines – shape and alter material • Material – Used to create the design (natural or synthetic) • Time

  4. Systems Open Loop System Closed Loop System

  5. Engineering • The process of designing solutions. • Engineers – design products, structures or systems to improve people’s lives. • Invention – the process of developing something that has never been made before. • Innovation – an improvement of an existing product, process or system.

  6. Engineering esignProcess A systematic problem solving strategy used to satisfy human wants and needs done by applying mathematics, science and engineering principles. Define the Problem Brainstorm Research and Idea Generation Identify Criteria and Specify Constraints Explore Possibilities Select an approach Develop a Design Proposal Prototype Test and Evaluate Refine Create and make solution Communicate Results
