PAST CONTINUOUS We use the past continuous tense to describe a past action over a period of time.(ongoing actions) We use it when we want to emphasize the continuing process of an activity or the period of that activity. And we use the simple past tense to express a short action that happens in the middle of the long action. We can join the two ideas with when or while.
