  1. Welcome to Back to School Night for Mrs. Wooten’s Math Classes Please find any seat… Thank you so much for coming to support Tom Hawkins School 

  2. Room 27 & Mrs. Wooten • Attended Jefferson School and Tracy High. • Attended Fresno State for Bachelors and Teaching Credential, and USF/CSUEB for Masters and Administrative Credential. • Taught Math/LA at Anthony Traina… moved here to teach math!!! • Have an ABSOLUTE PASSION for math and enjoy helping students understand how and why it all works out! • Extremely proud to teach for the school district I was educated in.

  3. Math in General • My main goal is to assist students in organization and prepare them for the rigorous high school math courses. • Each students will be keeping an interactive notebook. They are required to have it in class EVERYDAY!!! • Students will have homework Monday - Thursday for math. Please contact me if your child is having difficulty with their homework.

  4. Interactive Notebooks • Organization tool • Helps with studying the material • 1 place for all work (okay… most of it ) • Graded with a rubric – students are well aware of all necessary assignments • Worth a significant portion of the overall grade (30%) • Collected at the end of each chapter • A master copy is always available for any student who was absent or is missing work.

  5. Student Absences • If your child will be absent, please notify the office as soon as possible. • Students can check the “Daily Log” if they were absent. • It is helpful to pick up your child’s work so that it doesn’t pile up while they are out. • With notice, I will make every effort to have it ready for you. • Students will be given 24 hours (for each absent day) to make up their work.

  6. GATE and “testing out” of the chapters…. • Students are given an opportunity to “test out” of a chapter. • Students who earn a score of 90% or higher can choose to work on alternate assignments, IN CLASS, while I am instructing other students. • All GATE work is at an advanced level and pertains to real world applications. GATE work is due the same day the chapter test is given. • GATE options are available for your viewing – an example is posted on our class website.

  7. Visitors on Campus • All visitors must check in at the office prior to being on campus. • There are no exceptions, as this is Board Policy. • If you need to get a hold of your child or teacher during class time, please call the office and/or email your teacher.

  8. Aries and Grades • You will soon be able to access your child’s grades online. • If you need information, please see the office during business hours. • Because grades are available online, we will not be sending home weekly grade reports. • Progress reports and final Report Cards will be sent home in the mail. • Reminder: students need a cumulative GPA of 2.0 in order to meet graduation requirements. This is a cumulative GPA from 6th, 7th, and 8th grades.

  9. HOMEWORK • All homework is posted on the board. Pre-Algebra is on the left board and Algebra on the right. • Students were provided with a planner. The students have an 8 minute period at the end of the day to write in their planners. • Also, I post all homework on a class webpage http://wooten.wikispaces.com

  10. Questions, Comments??? • Please feel free to contact me at awooten@sjcoe.net • You can also reach me 839-2380 ext. 1127 • If you would like to set up a meeting with me you can contact me by email or by phone.
