  1. Present plan for LEB buildings C. Scheidenberger (GSI)

  2. Comparison of layouts: LoI vs. TP LoI (2004) TP (2005) C. Scheidenberger (GSI)

  3. Comparison to the experimental area of other facilities LEB UNILAC ISOLDE JYFL 35 x 28 m2 58 x 43 m2 47 x 20 m2 50 x 24 m2 (~1000 m2) (~2500 m2) (~1000 m2) (~1200 m2) LoI: 25 x 35 = 875 m2 TP: 35 x 35 = 1225 m2 * Annex buildings ? * Storage, workshop, labs ? * Office space ? * Control room, electronics ? after extension: 72 x 20 m2 (~1400 m2) C. Scheidenberger (GSI)

  4. Radiation shielding controlled area free access Example: 400 MeV/u 12C  Cu 109 per s For a first-order estimate of the dose rates expected with other secondary beams, the numbers can be scaled wit mass number and intensity, and within some restrictions with specific kinetic energy C. Scheidenberger (GSI)

  5. Conclusion • The following questions (and maybe some more....) should be answered by • HISPEC/DESPEC in spring 2006: • beam parameters: max. intensity (107 ?), max. energy (100 MeV/u ?) • access to LEB experimental area: • gate size of the hall? • crane needed? if so: maximum weight to be handled? • access to experimental cave: gate for equipment (dimensions?) • detailed plan of beam line • detailed plan of experimental area (inside concrete shielding) • besides the pure floor space for the experiment: • where will the DAQ, electronics, control room be located (containers, shacks,...)? • is a detector lab needed NEXT to the experimental area? • is a workshop needed? • is office space needed next to the experimental area? •  give numbers (square-meters), and ideally provide 3D-drawings! • .....civil engineering of buildings 6a and 6b will be finalized in summer 2006 • .....the more detailed knowledge exists the easier will be the planning C. Scheidenberger (GSI)
