  1. What Causes Students’ Erroneous Translation? From SLT to TLT

  2. Typology of reasons for translational errors Transfer Procedures SL text TL text interlingual intended meaning

  3. Typology of reasons for translational errors I. SLT comprehension errors are caused by: 1) insufficient knowledge of L2; 2) insufficient cognitive experience (low level of individual cognition of the world); 3) careless attitude to the SLT: a. miscomprehension of the author’s communicative intention; b. failure in recognizing the style.

  4. II. Errors in generating TLT 1. Insufficient knowledge of the TL system. 2. Inability to find most suitable semantic equivalent. 3. Disregard of evaluative connotations, style and history of the language and society. 4. Ignorance of laws of building utterances in the TL (neglecting speech communication requirements).

  5. Interlingual transfer competence SLT analysisTLT generation Mr. Topper turned from the tree and warmed himself into the automobile. And the observer, had he been endowed with cattish curiosity would have noted by the laborings of Topper’s body that he had not long been familiar with the driving seat of an automobile. Once in, he relaxed, then, collecting his scattered members, arranged his feet and hands as Mark had patiently instructed him (Th.Smith).

  6. Students’ erroneous translations А.
