  11. The Global Food Crisis • The sad reality today is that although enough food is produced to feed everyone on the planet with a healthy diet – each and every day almost 25,000 people (mostly children) die of starvation or malnutrition-related illnesses which are preventable.

  16. Only in Canada? • The Canadian government has earmarked $1.5 billion for biofuel producers in an effort to increase biofuel consumption to 5% of total fuel used by 2010! Oh, by the way, Canada’s annual international food aid is a mere $230 million, about 15% of what they’re giving the big oil companies!

  17. Yes, in Canada… • HungerCount (2006) reports that food bank use is at a record high, with 753, 458 Canadians relying on food banks in a one month period. Of these food bank users, 41% are children.

  20. DID YOU KNOW? • At many fast-food restaurants, one single meal gives a disproportionate share (sometimes more than 100%) of the recommended daily intake of fat, cholesterol, salt, and sugar.
