Since 2006 Debt Free London (DFL) have been providing free, expert debt advice to Londoners. Traditionally this had been via face-to-face interaction at one of their 50 advice centres; but due to the impact of Covid 19, advice centres have been forced to close and the advice had to be provided remotely. As a result of the pandemic, DFL and its employees had to move quickly in order to adapt to these chances. • DFL is a unique partnership of 20 charities collaborating together, its infrastructure is very fragmented as all charities work on separate IT systems. They needed something that helped them bring all of this together and overcome the challenges that they were facing. • The business had decided that they were going to provide Apple Macbooks to all of their advisors. This decision had a number of deciding factors which included but were not limited to: • A decrease in the lower total cost of ownership over a 4 to 5 year period. • Increased security by using Apple devices in the workplace. • Ability to aggressively patch and update devices smoothly and remotely. • Integration into existing systems such as digital signage and booking in systems. • This enabled DFL to make decisions on their roadmap and future as they could accurately forecast costs and scale accordingly.
The Solution • DFL decided that they were going to use JamfPro to manage their devices based on past experience and professional advice from Apple. • For a number of weeks DFL had worked with an organisation that helped develop the environment but the business quickly realised that the service and their users needed to be supported so they contacted Postremo IT. More information on them can be found here. • Due to the wealth of experience Postremo IT has gained over a number of years working with private and public sector clients they were able to confidently advise and identify any pitfalls and improvements after conducting a comprehensive investigation of the existing environment. Postremo IT helped identify a number of improvements that still needed to be made to the new build: • Security of the build needed to be enhanced as there were a number of issues identified with browser management, enforcing restrictions and applying regular updates. • An issue with the operating system resulted in not being able to leverage Zero-Touch Deployment resulting in a number of failed builds using much needed resources in other parts of the business. • Improvements to the existing IT workflows in the Joiner, Mover and Leaver (JML) process.
As the pandemic continued it was forecasted that there would be an increased demand for debt advice. This quickly came into effect and meant that DFL needed to recruit 70 trainee Debt Advisors. During the onboarding of the 70 new staff, Postremo IT assisted in providing socially distant induction sessions to ensure that users received their IT equipment and early support
What does Postremo IT do for DFL • Ongoing improvements and enhancements to the IT infrastructure. • Provide support to their 200+ users across different agencies. • Regular updates to their devices ensuring that the users and DFL remain protected and secure. • Management of the JML process. • Act as an overarching technology expert” was needed to guide them in making the right choices. • Application deployment and management was needed as apps are required to be installed from multiple sources such as Chrome extensions, Mac App Store, downloadable installers and Microsoft Azure Enterprise Apps. • Deployment support for new users and new devices. • Enrolling and managing iOS devices that are used as signage.
From this experience, the top tips for people, businesses and even other charities looking for remote deployment solutions would be to simplify their requirements and always look to move to the cloud. This allows you and your organisation to adapt swiftly to the ever-changing world of IT and enables you to provide your users a simple yet effective solution that can work from the office or from the comfort of your employees homes. • If there is anything you would like to discuss or you would like to find out how Postremo IT can assist you please contact us via email or phone • email: info@postremoit.com • phone: 020 7550 9103
