  2. Overview • The SMN is designed for dance researchers and scholars • The goal is to increase access to audiovisual items housed in disparate collections • Dance footage must be high-quality to be of value • Rights for dance materials are varied and complicated

  6. Certification • DRM-wrapped files communicate with the submitting institution • Institutions must allow each other participant to unlock the essences • If an institution feels that another participant is not respecting the rights of its submitted items, it can de-certify them

  7. Possible Development Path: Lionshare • Developed at Penn State University with academic sharing in mind • Incorporates many of the feature requirements of the SMN • Missing DRM and Certification components • Open Source – favorable licensing options
