Alfredo Versace was born in Bianconovo, Italy into a family that was already established in artificial flower making, sewing, fashion production and sales. At a young age he discovered a passion for fashion, creation, and product production. In Florida, 1957 he started creating unique timeless handbags, experimenting in rare and exotic skins.

In1975AVVersaceopenedashowroomonBroadwayand29thStreetinManhattan, withpartnerJohn Choi, andstartedjeansproductionwhichwassoldinternationally. Threeyearslaterashowroomwas openedon39thStreetandFifthAvenueandtheproductionofmen’sclothingbegan. Inthe80’snew storeswereopeninCortelyouRoad, Brooklyn, and34thStreetandSixthAvenue. TheVersaceBoutiquewasopenedin1987whichsoldrareperfumes, women’sgloves, scarvesandelegant topsandbottoms. In1988AlfredowasapproachedbythePaoloGucci’sOrganizationandbegan designing, manufacturingandproductionfortheirlabel, whilepromotinghispersonalbrand. Hewasthe headofthePaoloGuccilabelintheearly90’sandsimultaneouslybegantotrademarktheAlfredoVersace brand.
