  7. Status of Migration to TCP/IP • All GTS links are TCP/IP • Non-IP links supported with some non-GTS customers • All RTH Washington direct links are in the process of migrating to NOAAnet MPLS cloud or X.25 tunneled across MPLS to allow access to our backup site WMO CBS - ET-CTS Toulouse, FR

  8. Status of Usage of WMO Sockets • IP Sockets implemented on 8 GTS interfaces • Only the 5-digit channel sequence number is supported • EXCEPTION – RTH Washington does not utilize the shutdown TCP user primitive as specified in the Manual On the GTS (ref A.II-15/29 #6, #9) WMO CBS - ET-CTS Toulouse, FR

  9. Status of usage of file naming convention • RTH Washington has not yet implemented WMO general file naming conventions • Translation of the existing NWS Telecommunication Gateway directory and file naming standard* to the WMO convention is underway • Dual naming is planned to be in place in late 2009 * http://www.weather.gov/datamgmt/filstnd.html WMO CBS - ET-CTS Toulouse, FR

  10. Status of usage of FTP procedures • RTH Washington has not yet implemented WMO FTP procedures • Output file names do not follow WMO convention • File structure is specific to NWS* • RTH Washington is interested in establishing a pilot FTP interface using the WMO procedure with another GTS Center * http://www.weather.gov/tg/ftpingest.html WMO CBS - ET-CTS Toulouse, FR

  11. Interface Summary • 69 IP sockets interfaces • 23 interfaces with 8 GTS centers • 79 FTP input accounts • 31 accounts with GTS centers • 45 HTTP input accounts • 50 Email input accounts • 24 asynchronous interfaces • 5 X.25 interfaces WMO CBS - ET-CTS Toulouse, FR

  31. Information Technology Security • Security Certification and Accreditation in 2007 • Independent security review 2008 • Specific actions • Implementation of two-factor authentication • Implementation of configuration baselines • Implementation of automated change monitoring across all systems • Additional comments during review of the Guide on Information Technology Security at WWW Centers WMO CBS - ET-CTS Toulouse, FR

  32. Message Switching System • Replacement switching system brought online summer 2006 • New system architecture • Switching software rewrite from updated requirements • Migration of collective generation applications • Introduction of relational database system • Introduction of Storage Area Network • Replacement of Internet servers and attached storage • Upgrade to gigabit Ethernet WMO CBS - ET-CTS Toulouse, FR

  33. Message Switching System • New system architecture • IBM Power 4 and Power 5 systems • Each physical system includes • CPUs (16-32) • Memory (32 GB – 64 GB) • 72 GB DASD (8-16) • Gigabit ethernet adapters (8-16) • Storage Area Network fiber adapters (8-16) • System is “carved” into virtual servers called “Logical Partitions” (LPARs) • Replacement of two Power 4 systems with Power 5 systems underway WMO CBS - ET-CTS Toulouse, FR
