  • Taiwan’s civilian space agency

  • Established in October 1991

  • Involved in the several areas including:

    • development of space exploration

    • satellite construction and development

    • research in aerospace engineering

    • remote sensing

  • Currently, all activities are done over the internet.

  • Current bandwidth available is approx. 5 Mbps

    BUT

  • All 3 of GISTDA’s site is connected to the UniNET

  • Which is part of TEIN 3 research network

  • NSPO is in discussion to connect to the TEIN3 network through the University in Taiwan

  • Possible Bandwidth – 20 Mbps

  • Tested files (THEOS images) was uploaded via internet connection

  • 3 Image files (199 MB, 189 MB, 748MB) = 1.5 GB

  • Using TEIN3 Route with UniNet server

  • Topology: ThaiREN Node – TEIN3 – Singapore Node

  • Bandwidth: 20 Mbps

  • Upload Time for 1.5 GB data: 4.52 min

    (748 MB data uses 2-3 min)

Polar Station Data Transfer

Acquisition in Sweden

  • Acquisition of Satellite data in Sweden

  • All Data are transferred for further processing in Thailand.

  • The polar station is connected with SUNET.

  • GISTDA’s station is connected with UniNet.

  • The data volume is around 690 MB to 30 GB image data per one orbits (~2 orbits/day) or upto 60 GB per day

  • Use of Data transfer over GEANT and TEIN3 greatly reduces transfer time in case of emergency situation

Conclusion

  • GISTDA is employing the research network to improve response to emergency situations

  • Remote maintenance and assistance greatly reduce the cost of maintenance

  • Plans to connect to NSPO through the Research network

  • Tests show that bandwidth available will be multiple fold over the current available system

  • GISTDA faces problem with S-band Antenna system

    • Slow recovery time due to foreign contractors

    • Reduced communication with THEOS

  • 28 Jun 2010 : GISTDA-NSPO Meeting at NSPO

  • 16 Sep 2010 : Cooperation Meeting between NSPO&GISTDA at SiRacha station Thailand on the Topic “Implementation of inter-operability between NSPO and GISTDA”

  • Both party agreed to implement the inter-operability of system.

Introduction

The system consists on a 4.5 meter diameter antenna with S-band capabilities providing simultaneous transmission and reception capabilities for LEO satellites. The antenna provides satellite tracking by means of Program Tracking mechanisms.

      Solution: 1. Request for support either on-site support or remote support from Zodiac

      Cause:ESD in EEPROM of servo driving unit
