  1. Do Now: More On Cells

  2. Review What We Know

  3. 2 Types of Cells

  4. Where did Eukaryotes come from? • Endosymbiosis: The theory that chloroplasts, mitochondria, and other eukaryotic cell parts were prokaryotes taken in by bigger cells during the process of evolution, leading to eukaryotic cells.

  5. Chloroplasts • Chloroplasts do photosynthesis, which provides carbohydrates (food) to cells.

  6. Mitochondria • Mitochondria break down sugar to give a cell energy

  7. Flagella • Flagella are long, whip-like structures some cells use to move

  8. Quick Review

  9. Movie: “Cell Biology” • Illustrates many different cell types. • Explains differences between prokaryotes and Eukaryotes. • Explains evidence for endosymbiosis . • Describes chloroplasts, mitochondria, and flagella. • http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zufaN_aetZI&feature=fvw
