  1. Online Science Lessons for Kids — 6 Strategies for Effective Learning Science is one such subject that helps high school learners be one step ahead of the world. It helps children understand the working mechanism of everything around them and adds to their curiosity, making them aware of how the world functions. It is vital that effective learning strategies are incorporated into the right learning environment for children. Effective learning strategies are also endorsed by several cognitive psychologists as these span beyond the classroom, and the new concepts imbibed via these strategies help students thrive in the real world. This blog will highlight some of those strategies. Let’s have a look at them! 1) Properly Timed Lessons: Also known as spaced practice, this learning style incorporates a gap between teaching and re- learning. Properly timed lessons ensure that the same concepts are revised time and again over spaced practice periods which leads to better retention of concepts in the long run. For instance, when studying about space, high school students can designate time to study concepts of space, such as planets, solar system, and galaxies, in bits and pieces rather than repeatedly studying these science concepts right before an exam. Spaced practice can look like; learning planets on Monday, galaxies on Tuesday, solar system on Wednesday, and revision on Friday. 2) Retrieving Information Without Assistance: Have you noticed how it happens to most of us, including middle school children, that when the material we are supposed to revise from is right in front of us, we tend to memorize and revise seamlessly? Yet, retrieving information without the assistance of any learning material is what will help students memorize and understand the concepts better. While practicing something over and over again is beneficial, interleaving renders it more effective when learning. For instance, if you are trying to solve math problems, solve math problems of different kinds and variations instead of solving multiple ones that are formulated the same way. Interleaving will help students resist the urge to apply similar solutions to problems, as this can also have a negative effect by looping students into the habit of solving similar problems and expecting the same during tests. 4) Elaboration Of Concepts: It is essential and effective to elaborate concepts as it involves adding new information to the concepts of information already received and existent. Elaboration is an effective learning method as it will help students remember the concept better when there is extra information attached to it. For example, when learning about flora, elaboration on types of flora helps accelerate the learning process. Students can be given quizzes on such additional information as a fun way of learning the concepts. If there’s a quiz on the kinds of leaves, there should be a conceptual elaboration on all the options provided, so children learn not only the difference but also additional information about the kinds of leaves. 5) Combining Words And Visuals: It is one of the learning strategies known as dual coding. When verbal or written information is accompanied by visuals like graphs, an image, or charts, it becomes easy to link the concepts and visual representation when memorizing the same. With this interactive learning strategy, students can incorporate their visuals as dual coding makes information retrieval practice easier, as this will allow their brains to process the same information but in two different ways. An example of dual coding is the visuals usually given in textbooks or on children’s learning websites. As one of the teaching strategies, you can create slideshows for students to connect to the visual representation while learning, and then students can create their visuals to further reinforce the concepts. It can also include sketching, diagrams, or any other graphics. 6) Using Strong Examples: When information is supported with concrete examples, it improves how information is perceived. Using strong examples ensures that the concepts are easier to remember and understand. Encouraging students to form their examples as personal examples will help students connect to the ideas better. To use these effective learning strategies better, you can use the following tips:  Combine The Strategies: While these strategies can work just fine in isolation, you can combine any of them to maximize their effect. For instance, you can use the method of spaced practice with retrieval practice, and when doing retrieval practice, you can interleave between several concepts.
