  1. DYNAMITE Invented by Alfred Nobel In 1867

  2. Alfred Nobel • Son of a successful inventor/engineer • Began in his family’s business making war machines • Never fully educate/ Self-educated • Traveled to multiple countries to study chemistry • Invented multiple items in the field of explosives Ex. Blasting cap, and Dynamite • Know as the father of dynamite and The Nobel Peace Prize

  3. Nitroglycerine • The original unstable form of explosives • Commonly used for consturction • Highly unstable, resulting in many accedints • Main element in Nobel’s research • Main component found in dynamite • Due to its unstablilty of this compound it was a danger to work with. This factor caused Nobel to create a safe alternative

  4. Dynamite • Alfred Nobel’s prize invention • Known not only for its evolution in construction but in death • Was meant to be safer in construction • Also used in warfare, and other terroristic ways • Caused a lot of mixed emotions and views throughout the past • Main form of explosives used in construction, war, and other fields for over a century. • Discovered by an accident, Nobel was experimenting with false ground, and other absorbent materials to soak up the nitroglycerin.

  5. Pros vs. cons • Pros • Safer alternative to Nitroglycerin • More efficient form of blasting material in construction and mining. • Brought Economic support to certain areas by creating factories • Revolutionized construction and explosives, opining the fields for vast new opportunities • Cons • Began being used for terrorism and warfare causing many deaths • Experimentation with dynamite was extremly unstable causing many explosions also resulting in injury and death

  6. Nobel Peace Prize The constant destruction dynamite was causing created great stress and worrying in Mr. Nobel’s life. It eventually helped cause his death. With all his regret’s about his invention, he decided to make amends for his creation. This is how we got to know the Nobel Peace Prize. This was his will in testament to leave all his money earned from dynamite to be put towards a good cause.
