Challenges – Merging Catalogues Balancing act • Easier to find if all in one place – one catalogue versus 100 spreadsheets but…… • Without consistent properties search results can be very poor How much time have we got? • If you want it now – live with what you’ve got • If you want it next year – then we can work on the data Involves: • Understanding the classification system • Understanding the history of the data • Mapping it to in-house classification • Avoiding loss of information

The Topsides and Subsea World • Its dynamic • Equipment is constantly modified and upgraded • History is important • Changes must be tracked • Lacks standards • Variable classification and cataloguing, often limited resources • Vendor practices vary • Older is worse! • Different project teams and methodologies • Cataloguing often reflects why being done – not what • Value is underestimated • Inability to find topsides and subsea information costs money!

Topsides and Subsea – Change Management Scenarios • Pre 1990 - manual – output hardcopy • 1990 onwards manual during projects with electronic copy loaded at end of projects (by which time new projects and modifications started) • Recent – electronic with ‘e workflow’ Issues • Vendor numbering system is different to project numbering system is different to operator numbering system • Changes of ownership triggered changes to document management • Which system was maintained? • Was it reflected across paper/sepia and microfiche? Know the history It’s critical to retrieval of documentation for support of ongoing maintenance and development work
