  4. Feelings • I was excited when entering the museum • Curious to see how many changes have occurred since my last visit

  6. Dinosaurs • Lots of information • Overwhelming

  7. Dinosaurs • The first dinosaurs that existed 200 million years ago were small and meat eaters • Smithsonian has a collections of 46 dinosaurs • GIANT fossilized bones of a T-Rex

  8. Types of Dinosaurs • Diplodocus • Triceratops • Stegosaurus. • Quetzalcoatlus

  9. Diplodocus Dinosaur • Tall, long-neck skeleton • Plant-eater • Which lived about 135 million years ago

  10. Triceratops Dinosaur • Three Horn Face • Herbivorous- plant eater • 70 - 65 million years old, Late Cretaceous Period

  11. Stegosaurus Dinosaur • Means "roof lizard" or "plated lizard“ • Herbivore (plant-eater) • Lived in the Jurassic Period about 156-140 million years ago

  12. Quetzalcoatlus Dinosaur • Lived 70 million years ago, had a • 40-foot wingspan • The largest flying animal ever.

  13. Ancient Sea • Amazing and fantastic marine fossils • Interesting how ancient sea animals were related to modern animals • Recreated a 255-million-years old reef

Ancient Sea • Tell the story of evolution and extinction in the seas in three acts: • Paleozoic Era (540 to 250 million years ago), when odd prehistoric creatures such as trilobites abounded; • Mesozoic Era (250 to 65 million years ago), when marine reptiles such as mososaurs appeared • Cenozoic Era (65 million years ago to today), when the numbers and kinds of shelled animals increased, and when the primitive whale took to the seas.

  18. Hooker Emerald Brooch • 75 carats • Half-million-dollar emerald brooch set with diamonds • Originally was a part of the belt buckle owned by Sultan Abdul Hamid II • Donated to the Smithsonian Institution, in 1977

  19. Star of Asia Sapphire • 330-carat blue-violet star sapphire, with six-rayed star • Originated from Burma (Myanmar), known for its rubies and sapphires

  20. Other Gems • Many of those jewels were former crown jewels, and have storied pasts • Very historical, and beautiful jewels
