    4. 4 Health problems in Corporate sector-2007 1000 workers from 10 industrial houses belonging to main sectors i.e. Manufacturing, Civil construction, Software/consultancy, Drug/Pharmaceuticals and SSIs Objectives were to study health problems, stress faced by employees and steps taken by industrial houses 37% employees were indulging in all three addictions (Smoking, Alcohol and Other Tobacco products) Two fifth(42%) reported stress, with high level in persons in sedentary job (63%) and Service sector (IT, BPO). 46% respondents in stress were diabetics, 39% had heart problems, and 49% had a history of high blood pressure Provision of health facilities were variable and utilization were low(36%)

    10. 10 OBJECTIVES To implement health promotion model on pilot basis in industrial settings To develop a model for Healthy workplace for prevention of NCDs in industrial settings for National NCD Control Programme Profile of Industries: Public Sector-1 (Electronics industry) Private Sector-2 (IT industry-1, manufacturing industry-1) Project Period: 2008-2009, sustainability by the industries

    18. 18 Outcomes Various tools were developed Healthy workplace assessment comprehensive survey form Healthy workplace assessment rapid form NCD WORK-LITE form Monitoring & evaluation format Management is very receptive to such innovative ideas of employee well being Posture is a important risk factor besides other factors All the three industries decided to sustain and one up scaled to cover entire global operations among 30,000 employees. Model has become key component of health promotion in workplace settings under National NCD Control Programme in India which is being rolled out in 100 districts under 11th plan(2010-12).

    19. 19 Summary Integrated healthy workplace model implementation is feasible at Industrial settings Healthy workplace committee/Mechanism is crucial in every industry to act as a link between workers and managements and a guiding force for achieving a healthy workplace Workplace health promotion should focus on preventable/ modifiable risk factors of NCDs and any other priority areas identified by risk assessment The programme should be integrated and implemented through the NRHM/District industry centres with technical support from District health mission. Every industry has its own specific requirements. Hence a step-wise approach at state level is required to cover the organized and unorganized sectors in India Accreditation program for healthy workplaces
