  1. What is Marijuana? • A dry shredded mix of flowers, seeds, and leaves of the Cannabis Sativa plant. • Most commonly abused illegal drug which affects memory, judgment, and perception.

  2. THC • Main psychoactive ingredient in marijuana. The amount of THC in marijuana determines how strong the effects will be. • Absorbed in the tissues and organs and can be detected by urine, and blood for up to 60 days after you have used marijuana. • Nerve cells in the brain contain receptors that bind to THC and stimulate the release of dopamine.

  3. How is marijuana administered? • How is marijuana administered? • Smoked/Inhaled: • as a cigarette: Joint • Cigars that have been emptied: Blunt • in a water pipe: Bong • Orally • Mixed with food • Brewed as tea

Other Facts on Marijuana • Marijuana laced with other drugs such as cocaine, heroin, meth, PCP, etc., can have dangerous and even fatal effects on the individual. • Combining alcohol and marijuana can be fatal since marijuana suppress nausea. The individual may not vomit the excess alcohol and die from alcohol poisoning.

  7. Other Facts on Marijuana • In one recent study that followed nearly 2,000 teenagers as they became young adults, young people who smoked marijuana at least five times were twice as likely to have developed psychosis over the next 10 years as those who didn’t smoke pot.
